Rodebjer | The Woman Behind The Brand

Tuchuzy Stories –
interview with Carin Rodebjer

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF – WHERE WERE YOU BORN & RAISED?

"I was born and raised on Gotland, an island in the Baltic Sea with a great interest in craft, clothes and creative expressions from an early age. After life on the island I had a longing for life in a bigger city, so I moved to New York where I lived for about seven years. The combination of the resourceful mindset of the island where I grew up and the intense energy and amazing styles seen on the streets of New York has been strong parts of Rodebjers brand DNA."

How did you get your start in fashion?

"I always had an interest in expressing myself with clothes and seeing others expressing themselves through the same medium. The dream of looking exactly the same on the outside as I felt on the inside has been a strong creative force while building my brand. I always looked out for people I thought had great style so one thing led to another."

"The dream of looking exactly the same on the outside as I felt on the inside has been a strong creative force while building my brand."

Who is your greatest muse or fashion icon?

"Looking back, I would say Charlotte Rampling and Lee Radziwill. I like the effortless, laidback elegance, classic yet playful style they both had."

How would you describe your personal style?

"Dynamic.

Dressing up laidback things or dressing-down the fancy. It’s a balancing act."

Describe Rodebjer in three words:

Confident

Lasting

Relevant

"What I have learned is that what I have believed in for a long time is
now a must. We have to be more respectful of the environment. "

What does sustainability in fashion mean to you?

"Since day one, Rodebjer has committed itself to foster mindful consumption habits, presenting collections that are lasting in both quality and style. Implementing more sustainable and responsible practices, fabrics and initiatives in order to improve and extend each garments life and limit the impact our business has on the environment. Sustainability in fashion for me is thinking resourceful in all aspects of the business."

What is one of the biggest lessons you’ve learnt coming out of COVID-19, both personally and professionally? And are there any changes you will be implementing into the brand?

What I have learned is that what I have believed in for a long time is now a must. We have to be more respectful of the environment. The way we have been living is unhealthy and destructive for everyone. We will keep implementing the things we had already started before the crisis; we already use around 50% sustainable fabrics, but we will push it even further. We also look into resourceful business from all aspects; shipping, logistics, production etc.

What are your five can’t-live-without wardrobe foundational pieces?

"I have a pair of thigh-high hazelnut coloured boots from 2015 that I still wear. I also wear a pair of recycled patchwork workwear pants from 2014. An over dimensioned knee-long waistcoat that can be worn both indoors and outdoors."
